Rollators

Choosing the Right Rollators

Rollators are wheeled walking frames that provide sturdy support, a convenient seat and easy-to-use brakes, helping you stay balanced and conserve energy while moving around your home or community. By distributing weight across four wheels, they reduce the strain on joints and improve confidence, allowing older Australians, carers and therapists to promote independence and safe mobility.

Types of Rollators

1
Standard Seat Walker

Ideal for most users who need a reliable walking aid with a comfortable seat. Models like the Classic and Deluxe offer a balanced blend of stability, adjustable handles and a sturdy frame for everyday indoor and outdoor use.

2
HD / Bariatric Seat Walker

Designed for users with higher safe working loads, up to 204 kg. The Genesis HD provides a reinforced frame and wider seat, giving extra confidence to those requiring greater weight capacity.

3
Compact Mini Seat Walker

Perfect for tight indoor spaces such as apartments or narrow hallways. The Mini version folds to a compact size and weighs as little as 5 kg, making it easy to store and transport.

4
Adjustable-Height Seat Walker

For users whose height or posture changes, the Flex Adjustable model offers a broad handle height range. This ensures a natural, upright grip that reduces back strain during longer walks.

5
Meal Tray / Trolley Variant

Specifically built for kitchen or dining-room use, the Meal Tray Walker and Meal Trolley include a tray or trolley platform. They let users carry meals, groceries or medication safely while seated.

Key Features to Consider Before Buying

Weight Capacity

Rollators are rated with a Safe Working Load up to 204 kg, so you can select a model that matches the user's body weight and any additional load, ensuring the frame stays stable under everyday use.

Adjustable Handle Height

Handles can be raised or lowered to suit individual arm length, promoting an ergonomic posture that reduces shoulder and lower-back fatigue during prolonged walking.

Integrated Seat

A padded seat lets the user pause for rest without needing a separate chair, conserving energy and helping those with limited endurance keep moving longer.

Wheel Size Options

Smaller 6-inch wheels give better manoeuvrability on indoor carpets, while larger 8-inch wheels roll more smoothly over outdoor surfaces, providing stability on uneven terrain.

Lightweight & Folding Design

Total weights range from 5 kg to 19.6 kg and all models fold quickly, so the rollator can be stored in a car trunk or lifted onto public transport with minimal effort.

Wide Seat & Depth

Seat widths and depths are designed to accommodate a range of body sizes, offering comfortable seating that supports safe transfers in and out of the chair.

Robust Frame Type

Frames are constructed from high-strength steel or aluminium, delivering long-lasting durability and the rigidity needed for confident walking on varied surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sit on the rollator seat with your feet flat on the floor, then raise the handles until your elbows are slightly bent (about 15-20°). This position keeps your shoulders relaxed and promotes a natural walking stride. Most models have a quick-release lever for easy height adjustments.

A rollator adds wheels, a brake system and a seat, which reduce the effort required to stay upright and let you pause safely. If you need extra support for balance, want to rest while walking, or travel longer distances, a rollator is usually the better option. A standard frame may still be suitable for very tight indoor spaces where wheels could be a hindrance.

For indoor use on carpet or polished floors, 6-inch wheels provide tighter turning radius and prevent snagging. When you plan to walk on pavements, grass or uneven surfaces, 8-inch wheels roll over obstacles more easily and offer better stability. Choose the size that matches where the rollator will be used most often.

Before sitting, always engage the hand brakes to lock the wheels. This prevents the rollator from rolling forward while you're seated. When you're ready to stand, release the brakes, place both hands on the handles, and step forward slowly, keeping your weight centered over the frame.

Most models feature a quick-fold latch under the seat. Release the latch, swing the frame up until it locks into the folded position, and then secure any secondary lock if provided. The folded rollator can usually be stored upright in a car boot or carried on a public transport shelf.

Look for a model with a higher Safe Working Load (up to 204 kg) and a wider, reinforced seat. A sturdier frame and larger wheel base improve stability under higher weight, while the same adjustable handles and braking system ensure safety and comfort.
